About

Looking Forward, Looking Back, Looking Within: A Night of Authentic Relating Games

Join facilitators Renna Fir and Jesse French for an evening of connection around the theme of the new year unfolding. Using Authentic Relating Games as tools for introspection and community cohesion, we will build a container and hopefully get to know ourselves and each other a bit better – while having fun in the process!

Authentic Relating Games are a structured exploration of human connection that beautifully leaves room for your genuine experience to arise. Throughout the games, you are encouraged to both respect yourself and find the edges of your comfort zone, making your experience self-directed even as it’s gently tended to by the facilitators.

Authenticity is acting and speaking in alignment with our inner feelings, desires, and needs. Authentic Relating (AR) is the practice of bringing our truth into connection with others’, so that we can weave a more rich and truthful human experience.

They can help us experience deeper connections, boost empathy, see the world through others’ eyes, and understand ourselves better so that we can enjoy life more.

By the end of a game, you may feel like you’ve known your partner(s) for a long time. Many people express entering a room full of strangers and leaving feeling like lifelong friends. Every game is a unique experience, whether you are playing it for the first time or the hundredth, because there ism something new to learn about others and ourselves every time we enter into a new connection.

 Accessibility

We will play games in groups of up to 30 people and as small as pairs. The event is 3 hours long with a snack break in the middle. There is a quiet squish zone in case you get overwhelmed with stimuli. The venue is wheelchair-accessible.

Masks are optional at this event, and we ask you to please stay home if you are feeling even on the edge of illness.

The facilitation is offered in English and there are not currently adaptations offered for those who do not speak and hear in a verbal manner.

 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Jesse and Renna are committed to identifying and undoing injustice in their lives, including in their facilitation. This looks many ways depending on the context, but they strive to go about it with compassion, humility and clear communication.

One thing we understand to be true about prejudice and discrimination is that it powerfully isolates us from our humanity in exchange for an (ultimately shallow / artificial) sense of belonging. We hope that Authentic Relating Games can help to rewrite this script, building tools for communication and resilience that can serve white-cultured folks especially to remember what it is like to belong to a community of wholeness.
